VOLUNTEER NEWS
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
TO: Members of the Friends of Huntington Beach State Park FROM: Your Officers and Board of Directors SUBJECT: Participation as a member We all know, and appreciate, that our paid membership in the Friends affords us the opportunity to visit the park without having to pay the gate fee; and that is a good thing of which we all should be taking advantage. However, as we are incorporated and in partnership with the park for the purpose of providing support to their programs and activities, we do have an obligation to give of some of our time as volunteers for such things as the Atalaya tours, nature programs, and special programs including the park’s Halloween events and the annual arts and crafts show in the fall. Also, coming this fall is the opening of a new visitor center in part of Atalaya that will also serve as our "home". We are being asked by the park to help keep the center open with volunteers. Annually, the Friends collectively contribute nearly 6,000 hours of service to the park. Unfortunately, the largest portion of those hours is contributed by only 30 volunteers. With a total membership of approximately 100 you can readily see where the lion’s share of the work is being performed by a relatively small number of folks. THE FRIENDS NEED YOUR HELP! SEARCH YOUR SOUL! IF YOU CAN POSSIBLY SPARE AN HOUR OR TWO PER WEEK (WE WOULDN’T EVEN TURN DOWN MORE THAN TWO HOURS PER WEEK!) GIVE US A CALL. JUST IMAGINE WHAT A GREATER IMPACT WE COULD HAVE TOWARD ACHIEVING OUR MISSION OF ASSISTING THE PARK IF THE 70 MEMBERS WHO HAVEN’T AS OF YET DONE MUCH VOLUNTEERING WOULD CONTRIBUTE JUST 2 HOURS PER WEEK. THAT’S 140 HOURS PER WEEK OR 560 HOURS A MONTH!!!!! Sincerely, Your officers and executive board.
