ATALAYA CLEAN UP DAY
Forty five volunteers worked three hours on Monday,
February 25th, to give Atalaya a “spring cleaning” . Rooms
were swept, basements cleaned out, roof gutters freed from debris and
flowers planted in the courtyard walkway. Originally, the workday was
planned to run from 9:00 till 5:00, but all work was finished by lunch
time. Special thanks to Jim Basilico for doing the work involved in providing
lunch.
Thanks is also due to everyone who participated. Robyn Salmon, Sculpture
Curator for Brookgreen Gardens, and several other Brookgreen staff took
time from their busy scheduled to participate.
THREE IN ONE DAY
A SUCCESS
The weather could not have been more cooperative.
Every year this event gets better. Although a few people who made reservations
did not attend, we had a good showing. Local artists filled Anna’s
studio displaying their work. Carley van der Kloet won the painting done
by Danny McLaughlin. Danny is a well known local artist whose works command
a premium price. Congratulations Carley.
As a token of our appreciation, your Board of Directors voted to award
Danny a one year honorary membership to Friends.
This event raised $775 our treasury. President and Event Chairperson,
Joan Crow, worked hard to make this day a success.
Archer and Anna would have been pleased to see their home “come
alive” again for their special day.
HISTORY AND WILDLIFE DAY
MARCH 12th
This annual event, part of CanAm week, brought
6,100 visitors to the park. Carley van der Kloet, Chairperson for the
event, reported we took in $452 selling T-shirts, coffee and donuts.
Many thanks to those Friends who volunteered their time and effort to
make our participation a success.
